Preparing for your Lip Blush Appointment
For 2 weeks before your appointment:
No chemical peels, facials, microdermabrasion, products with alcohol on the face, toners, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, AHA/BHA/PHAs, or Retinoids around the area.
No chemical peels or facials around your lips.
Avoid tanning or having sunburnt skin on or around your lips.
Avoid dermal filler/lip injections/botox.
Avoid invasive laser treatments on your face.
Begin to generously moisturize your lips to prepare for the appointment. Excessively dry/cracked lips do not retain pigment and will affect final results. Appointment may be canceled if your lips are dry/cracked/bleeding.
For 72 hours before your appointment:
Avoid taking Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Fish oil, Advil, Ibuprofen, or any other blood thinning medication. Please consult with a doctor before stopping any medication.
To lip blush clients: Lip blush procedure can trigger cold sores for carriers of the herpes simplex virus. To prevent this from occurring, it is recommended to take antiviral medication prescribed by your family doctor (such as Zorovax or Valtrex) for 3 days before the procedure and continue to take it for 3-5 days after having your lips tattooed.
If you are someone who already gets cold sores (even just once), you have the herpes simplex virus living dormant in your system. Any injury or trauma to your lip tissue can cause a cold sore breakout. To clarify, the lip blush procedure does not cause cold sores but the injury to the lip tissue can cause a cluster of sores.
An important step to take is to prepare for the appointment by taking antiviral medication. Tattoo artists cannot prescribe this medication, so please plan your appointment accordingly.
For 48 hours before your appointment:
Do not consume any alcohol, tea, or caffeinated beverages for brow and lip clients.
Do not smoke
For 24 hours before your appointment:
Do not workout, exercise, or excessively sweat
For the first day after the procedure, gently wipe the lips with the provided wipes to absorb any excess lymphatic fluid or excess pigment. Do this repeatedly throughout the day: every couple of hours, after eating meals, and before bed.
Keep your lips moisturized with the provided healing balm. Apply the healing balm with freshly washed hands or with a clean, disposable cotton bud as needed until your scabs are gone. Be sure to only apply a thin layer each time. Avoid thick layers of ointment because this will actually interfere with the healing process.
There are no diet restrictions after your lip procedure. However, your lips will be sensitive immediately after. Avoid food and drinks that are too hot/too cold or spicy. It may feel uncomfortable on your sensitive lips. Lip sensitivity usually goes away in the first 48 hours. Be sure to drink with a straw for the first 3 days to avoid as much contact with food/drinks to your lips.
Swelling and bruising: All clients will react differently to the procedure. Some clients may experience little to no swelling while others may have balloon swelling. It all depends on your body’s natural reaction to trauma. Either way, do not be intimidated by swelling! It is a temporary reaction and a completely normal part of healing. Minor swelling usually goes down in 24 hours while major swelling may take up to 48 hours.
If you have any unexpected healing reactions, please message us immediately so we can advise. Email us at inkedbycass@gmail.com or message on Instagram at @inkedbycass.
Inevitably, sun exposure to our face/brows will fade the color. To prolong your healed results, it is recommended to wear sunscreen over your brows.
Schedule your touchups accordingly. Everyone’s body fades pigment differently. Some clients may need a touchup after one year while others may want to wait two years. How long you should wait between your touchups is completely up to you. Once your brows have faded after some time and you are ready to darken them once again, you can book for a touchup session. If you are an existing client of INKEDBYCASS and you are unsure if you need a touchup, please email us a picture of your brows to inkedbycass@gmail.com or message on Instagram at @inkedbycass so we can give you our professional opinion. Not every client needs to do a touchup every year.
Important Reminders:
Do not splash-wash your face with water. Instead, wash your face by slowly bringing water up to the areas of your face. If your lips get wet accidentally, gently pat dry.
Drink only through a straw for the first 3 days.
No kissing for a minimum of 5 days — pressure can interfere with scabs and/or cause infection.
Do not apply makeup or topical skincare products to your lips or close to your lips for a minimum of 5 days.
Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Do not rub, pick, or scratch your scabs. Picking at your scabs can cause scarring or loss of color.
No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
Laser Treatments must be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after lip blush. And in general, lips should be avoided during any laser treatment moving forward or the laser will remove the color from the lips like tattoo removal can.
Wait a minimum of 2 weeks for lip filler/dermal filler in the area.
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 2 weeks after the procedure.
Avoid hot, sweaty, and intense exercise until your scabs are completely gone. Sweat can cause infection.
Avoid long, hot showers until your scabs are gone. Steam and sauna activity can cause infection. Avoid getting your face wet in the shower by turning your face away from the water pressure. If your scabs are wet after the shower, immediately pat dry.
Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs until your scabs are gone.
Avoid makeup and sunscreen on the area until your scabs are gone.
